Copper Hair Care: 5 Tips for Staying Vibrant

Copper hair care

Are you a copper queen who struggles maintaining the vibrancy of their red locks? I feel your pain all too well 🙃 As someone who has been copper for over 2 years now, I’ve had my fair share of trial and error when it comes to perfecting my copper hair care routine. There are so many resources on the internet – it’s hard to know which ones actually work. Luckily, I know a lot of great hair stylists who gave me their expert tips!

Whether you’re a natural redhead or have embraced this fiery hue through dyeing, perfecting your copper hair care requires a little extra attention. In this blog post, I’ll share five essential tips to make sure your copper hair care is keeping you vibrant all summer long

  1. Use Color-Protecting Products

To preserve the vibrancy of your copper hair, it’s crucial to invest in color-protecting hair care products. Look for shampoos, conditioners, and styling products specifically formulated for color-treated hair. These products often contain ingredients like UV filters and antioxidants that shield your hair from the damaging effects of the sun and environmental pollutants. Additionally, they can help lock in the color and prevent it from fading over time.

  1. Minimize Heat Styling

Excessive heat styling can be detrimental to the longevity of your copper hair color. Heat tools such as flat irons, curling irons, and blow dryers can strip away moisture from your hair, making it prone to fading. Whenever possible, opt for air drying your hair or using the lowest heat setting on your styling tools. Additionally, using a heat protectant spray before styling can help create a barrier between your hair and the heat, reducing damage and color loss.

  1. Protect Your Hair from the Sun

The sun’s UV rays can be particularly harsh on colored hair, leading to color fading and dullness. Shield your copper locks from the sun by wearing hats, scarves, or using UV-protecting hair sprays or leave-in treatments. These products can help minimize color degradation caused by sun exposure. Remember to reapply the UV protectant if you’ll be spending an extended amount of time outdoors, especially during peak sun hours.

  1. Limit Washing, Use Cold Water, and Use a Water Filter!

Frequent washing can strip away the natural oils that keep your hair vibrant and healthy. Aim to wash your hair every other day or every few days to maintain its moisture balance. When you do wash, opt for sulfate-free shampoos and lukewarm or cold water. Hot water can open up the hair cuticles, leading to color fading. By using cooler water temperatures, you can help seal the cuticles and preserve the color for longer. Pro Tip: Get yourself a water filter that attaches to your shower head! Hard water has lots of minerals that can strip your hair of its color and important vitamins!

  1. Enhance Color with Color Depositing Shampoos and Conditioners

If you want to give your copper hair an extra boost of vibrancy and maintain its intense hue between colorings, consider using color depositing shampoos and conditioners. These specialized products contain pigments that can refresh and intensify your hair color with every wash. Look for options specifically designed for copper or red hair shades.
